The Pairs History
It would have been foolhardy not to have created a three day team matchplay event that was not close to our rival event within the professional ranks, the Ryder Cup. The points system operated is very similar with the first two days accounting for 60% of the points available (RC 57%) and the loaded singles matches the remaining 40% of the points indeed slightly less than the RC (43%).
So for the first two days, teams battle as pairs with the slight change being that our quality of golfers did not mirror our illustrious professionals and foursomes golf would be just too difficult a nut to crack. So greensomes matches were the preferred choice and with fitness levels also questioned, these games would just be 9 holes to back up the 18 hole better ball matches.
A few Trevors (due to the nature of the course configurations over the weekend - LT) have meant some 18 hole greensomes matches have been played but the last of these (to date) was way back in 2009.
Unlike the Ryder Cup, we ask all our players selected to stand up, man up and play all sessions throughout the three day event. No rests here!!

Annual Team Scores
The following table shows the annual pairs results and also whether the session winners went onto win the Trevor on any given year.
The overall totals (at the foot of the table) reflect the fact the ROW have been more dominant in this format since the records have been maintained - 2006 onwards and they currently hold the lead by one in the overall team scores.
Indeed when at full strength their dominance would be even more apparent as the OHA figures have been flattered in years when the ROW struggled with team selection and had to bring in last minute replacements in 2008 through 2013 most of whom all struggling to deal with the pressures of the Trevor. Finally they have bucked this trend with their latest two new boys both being top points scorers in their debut years, JR (2016) and Simmo (2017) and most recently the return of Rhys and debut of young Gary McGuff in 2019 who both featured very strongly.
There have been six Trevors where the lead over the first two days has been emphatic, Five Lakes (2004) and Goodwood (2012) for the OHA; East Sussex (2013) Forest Pines twice (2014 and 2021) and Fairmont St Andrews in 2019 for the ROW. Worryingly for the OHA the four ROW big leads have taken place over the past seven Trevors.
No team has come back from behind after two days to win although both 2017 and 2018 were very, very close!!
Only two Trevors have been tied over the first two days going into the singles, the first being in 2006 when the ROW won the singles on the final day to win the Trevor. Of course in the closest of all weekends in 2016 the tied Trevor at Woodhall Spa was level after day two and nothing changed on that memorable final day.
