DRAMATIC TIE KEEPS TREVOR SERIES LEVEL!!!
Trevor XX, 2016 - Woodhall Spa
With LT busy finding his feet again and away in Florida, Prich took on the mantle of organising and ultimately running the event. After extensive trevoring, he announced to all that the event would be returning to a former venue at Woodhall Spa. This led to a few sleepless nights waking up in a cold sweat at the thought of 3 rounds back on the Hotchkin course from trevorers that played back in 2003 - but once Valium had been taken, everybody murmured content at this choice for getting the Trevor back on track. Prichy appointed Copey as an able deputy and the two incumbent captains, The Colonel and Colin agreed to continue in their roles as team leader.
Pre Trevor
The OHA skip soon confirmed that he had a full compliment of players available (indeed it even looked like a potential 16 were up for selection - LT). So the request was passed to captain Colin to field a team of 14. With their recent triumphs, this didn't seem to be a problem at all at the onset.
However a couple of withdrawals followed in the early New Year, both Matt W and Wyn pulling out for family reasons, two players that would be greatly missed both on and off the course. On the plus side, the ROW MAMIL had decided to hang up his lycra for the weekend and make a very welcome return to the fold - welcome back Medsey.
LT returned from Florida to then tell his captain that very reluctantly he was declaring himself unavailable for the event as he continued his rehabilitation now relocating to the remote Scottish Highlands to carry on with this process. The Colonel, although sorry to see that LT would be missing, was also pleased that his selection headache was now solved - except that JR remained on the bench.
The Trevor and ROW counsels duly met and decided that JR would transfer to the ROW fold on a Bosman (indeed this perhaps was more his spiritual and rightful home as he has spent a lifetime abusing all things Hampton!! - LT). The main dilemma, of course, for the ROW was how much their average age would rise by the inclusion of JR!!!
So 14-a-side, all trevored....until the very last minute when a sad announcement from captain Colin resulted in him pulling out from the final day's singles. Fortunately a few hasty phone calls led to Tim, once again, stepping in to fill this void having last played back in 2011.
A large crowd gathered for a practice round on the Friday, indeed there was an even earlier reconnaissance party that arrived Thursday (Jules & Leafy) - perhaps a new Trevor record?
As part of the new regime, Prichy had agreed with captains to do more in advance this including the full draw for day one on the Friday night. Sadly on what was meant to be the "Friendly Games" a small incident ensued as a consequence of this trevor with The Colonel taking great consternation with the ROW boys when attempting to carry out this process. Full details are a little cloudy and currently in the hands of legal teams so at this time are unable to be fully reported!!

Hampton edge Day 1
Fortunately for all this matter was forgotten by the morning and full focus was on the golf that lay ahead. The weather was set fair and The Trevor was firmly back.
The morning greensomes were played on the maturing Bracken course with the OHA sneaking a one point lead with the skipper leading the way with a resounding win partnered with Clacks. The back three games were very tight contests with the ROW just shading them to keep the margin small, indeed something they would dramatically repeat later in the weekend.
Greensomes Scores: OHA 4 ROW 3

The evening was full of suitable revelry, Prich provided his usual brain teasers for everybody to enjoy over dinner, LT sent a short message along with some local Highland whisky for all to enjoy, draws were made for the following day and everybody retired to the bar to relive Trevor memories.
One new Trevor by Prich was the new Scoreboard, greatly received and a definite regular for all future events.
Prichy had asked Jules to present a brief "Ode to the Trevor", duly delivered showing the unique talent of prose and delivery that this veteran trevorer possesses. (video posted on main menu)

ROW edge a tense day - all square after Day 2
Day two was once again played with fine weather and the ROW came out hot to take a two point lead going into the afternoon's matches.
Game 7 saw another addition to the growing list of maximum wins in this format as Kill & Rich trounced the mighty pairing of Karlos & Medsey.

The afternoon better ball matches followed a regular day 2 Trevor pattern with many games throwing up big wins for both sides as players succumbed to the mental and physical fatigue associated by this session. Both the tight matches finished all square. By squeezing a half in his game, JR remained unbeaten as a debutant and Prichy was, once again, 100% needing a singles win to join the elite list for the first time.

This score left things very simple. Whoever wins the singles wins the Trevor - or perhaps a second tie in Trevor history??!! History suggested NO - just one tie in Trevor history and also only one tied singles session in 19 previous years (Saunton 2005). Whatever may happen would surely involve some drama and many twists and turns.
Another night of banter, fines committee (see video below), the Trevorcast and early nights in preparation for the titanic final day that lay ahead!!

The Wonder at Woodhall!!
What a fitting return for the Trevor - a tied match that was full of drama at the finish. The rear guard of the ROW played some exceptional golf to turn the tide from what looked like an OHA win with 30 minutes to play in the singles.
The first big upset was in game one with Hoody convincingly taking out Prichy previously with a 100% record going into the singles (the second time in consecutive Trevors that Prich has lost to a big underdog in an attempt to join the hallowed group of 100%ers at the Trevor - LT). Suds lost to a more than steady performance from Dronny who dug very deep to get his first win of the weekend, Woz squeezed home against the struggling Nick, then came the next big OHA shock win as Jules took out Lethal - only his third ever singles win!! Surely these two wins were turning the tide Hampton's way with what were two massive Trevorcast swings??
In game five, JR completed his triumphant debut with an emphatic win against the troubled Killer. Games seven to twelve were all one way traffic, four of the five wins going to the OHA. However the one big shock here resulted in an ROW win that obviously proved vital later in the day. This was Jon taking down the mighty Clacks, his first singles loss since his debut way back in 1999 (that said it was a clash of the titans as Jon was sitting number two in the singles record rankings so not necessarily that big a shock? - LT).
So three games were now left on the course, the ROW needed to win all three to tie the match and retain the Trevor. All three games were tight, never more than a hole in them coming down the home stretch. The Colonel, although not counting chickens, was confident that one of his boys would bring home just the half point needed for victory.
But he and most others witnessed a final counter punch from the ROW boys. Firstly Grant pulled out the wonder shot on the 18th to secure his point, a miraculous 3 wood from way back and also another fairway (!!) to 10 feet to knock the stuffing out of Rich to lose on the last. First point in for the ROW.
This left games thirteen and fourteen live - Sarge firstly played some great golf up 16 and 17 to secure a win against Leafy, the second point for the ROW. So the final match game down the last and what a supersub Tim proved to be holding off Saintly winning the last hole with the last putt to secure the final of the three points the ROW required - truly amazing and pulled off, of course, under the intense scrutiny of the other 26 trevorers - true pressure!!
So this dramatic ROW rally saw the singles session tied seven matches each and as a result the match tie was secured and the Trevor retained. Truly the "Wonder at Woodhall"

So Trevor XX drew to a close, another great year with many memorable moments, the best possible and most exciting finish to date.
The Colonel reluctantly handed the trophy back to the ROW who retain as current holders. (he should, though, be proud of his efforts having galvanised his troops once again into a competitive force after two hapless performances at the past two Trevors - LT).
With the two captains standing down, Hoody was announced as the OHA skip and Dronny returns to undertake his second year in office having missed this opportunity back in 2007.
Goodbyes were said as everybody set off home in the full knowledge that the Trevor is back, alive and kicking. Well done Prichy and Copey for all their sterling efforts to make the event such a success. Also big thanks to JW Media for providing the media content from 2016.
Bring on 2017!!

2016 Player Stats
Trevor's Summary
There were two unbeaten trevorers in 2016, more notable as one was a debutant, the first to ever go unbeaten. No tough baptism of fire for JR!! The second saw a welcome return to form by Toby, obviously been sneaking in some cheeky practice after class!! Obviously Tim was also unbeaten, but just for his one game that he played.
Each side had a pointless player, firstly and surprisingly from the OHA, Nicky Boy, and from the ROW returning stalwart, Medsey. The handicap committee will sit and duly acknowledge this unwanted accolade with suitable adjustments. Saintly only just avoided this demise squeezing a half point in the first morning greensomes. Indeed this was his second winless year in three and with only one win in between, this previously reliable "golf is an easy game" player seems to be running away with the Franz Klammer Award (going downhill fastest!! - LT). It is a moot point as to whether he needs a handicap adjustment or perhaps a slight change in his pre-match dietary regime!!!
The ever reliable Clacks has his worst Trevor record statistically (40%), his first time under the 50% barrier. Other surprisingly low records were Trevor big guns, Dronny, Softers (ROW) and Leafy (OHA), only a solitary victory over the weekend.
Indeed one of these who shall remain nameless is arguably challenging Saintly for the Franz Klammer Award as he was also winless at the last Trevor; this demise further exacerbated by the fact that this is the period when his handicap had actually increased by 3 shots since leaving club golf. Perhaps like many others who in recent times in their chosen sport of cricket, another having a mental meltdown - is this unnamed person in need of a couch??!!! (I can offer a good referral!! - LT)
The other big success stories on both teams were Prich (previously mentioned), Grant also emulating his four wins for the ROW. For the OHA, JG was also four for five and arguably (or not!! -LT) a surprise, Jules deserves mention for his best ever Trevor (obviously the high altitude Pyrenees training camp paid off!! -LT).
The points table below shows the details in the normal format:
