Trevor XV, 2010 - Hawkstone Park
A return to the venue of the historic tied Trevor of 2001 and keenly anticipated by the boys who had played in this earlier event as Hawkstone had proved a popular venue.
The weather was kind once again, another further endorsement of the value of a summer Trevor.
The courses were reversed from 2001 with the singles played on the newer and now re-named Championship course. Hawkstone proved to be a popular venue again and provided great value for money, although perhaps the courses
didn’t quite match the recent quality enjoyed in recent years. It is amazing how The Trevor has moved on in terms of the quality of venues, as in 2001 Hawkstone was regarded as one of the best.
The overall match score stands at 7½ - 6½, after Kill’s back to back triumphs as skip had halted a strong run by the ROW.
With Karlos, in his second year of captaincy, would him being a year older, a year wiser and a further year of trevoring prove to give him the edge over debut captain, Leafy? Or would the leader of an Army use these skills to
manoeuvre his OHA troops to further glory. (All I knew it is that this pairing suggested a fun weekend – LT!!

Pre Trevor
The previous years’ selection issues paled into insignificance compared
with 2010 although the end result was a twelve-a-side match.
The OHA numbers sat at twelve with the “transfer” (one in, one out) of the Jockos, JG returning after a brief sabbatical year in 2009 replacing Clack, unavailable due to business!! Jim Hooke was still on the injury list.
Congratulations must go to skipper Karlos - and his able deputies for achieving this feat. And boy it was a feat!!
Six, yes six (that is half a team – LT!!!) of the 2009 team were unavailable;
Jack and Woz for family reasons, Colin Powell, our stand in deputy had no passport to cross the border to civilisation,
Kenny was away on a “handshaking summer camp” and Sagey in therapy after Leafy’s annual tirades took him over the edge!! Big Dog had another last minute crippling injury that led to a most controversial, but necessary decision –
(more later, LT).
Fortunately Sarge had recovered from his injury and Softers & Medsey made welcome returns. This still led two early doors spaces to fill and this allowed the opportunity to bring Jon Wheeler back into the fold after his brief “day job” at Bowood in 2006. Sarge presented his brother-in-law Tim so the ROW team was completed – that was, of course, until Big Dog’s late withdrawal.
Having trawled through every known man to get to twelve initially, the ROW pot of names was now dry. Skipper Karlos could only submit one name, an ex OHA team member, who had declared his availability and keenness
to attend – this name being the previously disgraced Cooky!!!
A frantic process of communication was undertaken before agreement that this contentious selection could be approved – an amnesty was duly granted and Cooky was now back in the Trevor fold (in a freak coincidence his last appearance being 9 years previously at Hawkstone Park!! - LT) this time to play for the ROW.

The Weekend
Sadly the records for this event are the only ones missing in the modern era. LT
has to accept blame but, in his defence, he was ensconced in a move to a new
location and job, and somehow the results were mislaid.
The singles results have been recovered through some good trevoring and are detailed below with a brief overview of the first two day's proceedings.
The event commenced with the nine hole greensomes played on the front nine of the Championship course, a close session won by the ROW. The afternoon better balls were played on the older Hawkstone course with another close session, shared to leave the ROW with a slender advantage on day one.
The evening was a relaxed affair with dining amongst the other guests so no official ceremonies took place. Lots of bonhomie in the bar with many taking advantage of the games room to keep the competitive juices flowing. For the
others, a balmy summer's evening allowed an al fresco session in the lovely garden in the hotel's grounds.
Day two saw possibly the earliest Trevor tee time. LT had organised playing the back nine on the Championship course starting on the 10th. This meant a bit of a walk and with a first tee time at 8.00 am, many trevorers made their way to the tee with bleary eyes and sore heads!! Matt W out first and his partner, had a quick win, so much so they could have made it back into the hotel for a second sitting for breakfast!! The greensomes session was once again won by the ROW to increase their overall lead.
The afternoon better ball matches were able to start relatively early due to the early morning start, allowing a nice
relaxing late afternoon for all to enjoy. The ROW just edged home to retain an unbeaten record in all four sessions, although their winning margins were always by the narrowest margins. Although the match remained in the balance
based on the back of recent big OHA success in the past two singles, the ROW only needed 4½ wins out of 12 to win The Trevor. The OHA needed 8 wins from 12 matches to tie. Surely we could not get a repeat of a tied Trevor, as previously experienced at the same venue 9 years earlier.
With a private area cordoned off for the Trevor in the restaurant tonight, normal order was restored - a superb night’s
entertainment with a late twist at the conclusion of proceedings. Softers and Rich hosted an excellent fines session with no trevorer failing to go through the caustic, yet humorous mill!!
The evening rounded off with a delightfully quirky, new and very entertaining presentation. It had been discovered that
Jules had arrived in the UK with various “tools” to hone in his short game skills. These were secretly smuggled into the dining area and duly produced for Jules to present a hilarious short game master class where he
displayed the full repertoire of his skills for all to enjoy!!
The singles draw, always eagerly anticipated, was spiced up after the one year sabbatical of the trevorcast.

ROW Edge to Victory
The singles was keenly fought as always but victory was secured relatively early with the 4½ wins secured in the frst eight matches. The top two wins in two tight matches against strong OHA opponents being the key, Matt W beating JG on the last and Softers gaining revenge for his singles loss to Leafy the last time The Trevor visited Hawkstone (2001). Three halved matches also proved crucial. Lethal had a great win against LT shooting level par over the last 5 holes to come back from three down to win by one hole (in LT's defence, three were shot holes and he was only 1 over par himself)

This win for the ROW tied the series once again at 7½ - 7½ and gave retiring ROW skip, Karlos, his win. Can Leafy turn things around in 2011?
Leafy (as the losing skip) presented the Trevor to said skip who announced that his successor would be Sarge, the last of the original ROW trevorers (still playing- LT) to take on the role of captaincy for his boys.
