Trevor XII, 2007 – Bournemouth
This was a year of a multitude of Trevor firsts.
Following on from the 2006 model but expanded further, three different golf courses were visited in 2007, the one and only Trevor to go this far.
Of the courses, one was played for the first time on a municipal track (what was LT thinking??!!)
And finally another Trevor first was town centre accommodation, located right in the heart of Bournemouth allowing the opportunity for a few boys to take advantage of the bright lights of this bustling holiday town.

Pre Trevor - The Selection Woes!!
Previous Trevors may have encountered one or two selection issues due to withdrawals but Trevor XII has taken this to a new level.
Early doors both Jack and Hoody pulled out due to impending births of first born, followed by June cry offs from The Headmaster (shoulder operation), Hippo (injury) and Big Dog (working sojourn Down Under).
These changes reduced the Trevor to 12 a side after a late call up to a new trevorer (and what an excellent addition) from the valleys,Wyn Davies. To date this remains his one and only appearance, but we hope that once the shackles of having a young family are loosened, that he may make a welcome return.
Then, of course, came “Dronnygate” only 2 weeks before the off. This left the ROW with 11 and a rudderless ship, soon rectified with the appointment of Medsey as the new skipper. Numbers returned to 12 with Kenny stepping in at the last minute for the second year running.
Of course, Jules was returning (after his late withdrawal in 2006) as captain for his second year in office. With the ROW on a roll with two wins on the bounce, could he stop the rot with his unique captaincy style?
Then when we thought all was well, we experienced, and thankfully to date the one and only time, more team problems on the weekend itself. Clacks’ hasty return back to Jockland for personal reasons was poor timing, but very understandable; this left the OHA with 11 and a logistical problem, but with a degree of karmic symmetry, the ROW also had an eleventh hour pull out from Lethal due to a crippling back injury suffered the night before the Trevor.
So yet another Trevor first ,an odd number as both teams were reduced to 11 a side. The "Trevor Council" hastily sat to find the logisitical solution to this disparity in numbers. This solution being that the first game out on day ones and two would be a singles match, with an additional rider that no trevorer would play more than one of these matches over the weekend.
Once again the 18,36,18 hole formula was required to accommodate course availability.

Hot ROW off to Solid Defence
Queens Park
The Queens Park course was a superb test of golf and the overall
condition more than acceptable living up to its reputation as one of the better municipal tracks in England, the reason for its selection (as well as financial - LT). The bunkers were rather ‘unique’ but aside from this and the fact that we were probably the best dressed golfers to ever walk
the fairways, an enjoyable day’s golf was had by all.
In the singles match Joey did well to beat off the challenge of Prich, a much needed win for the OHA as the ROW triumphed in four of the five better ball matches. A notable win was recorded by the boys from The Marsh Harrier who beat a very strong OHA pair of JG & Copey. New skip Medsey certainly trevored his pairings
well and poor Jules, on his return to fulfil his captaincy duties, will need to pull out all the stops on day two to get his
victory.

The day finished early allowing the teams to retire to the Montague Hotel to watch the climax to The Open with plenty of early doors drinking.
It was overheard that one outspoken OHA player (who must remain nameless for legal reasons!! - LT) had commented that the ROW had thrived on the municipal as it befitted their background. Very contentious!!!
An excellent meal with good bonhomie and a superb performance from the Fines Committee (Rich and Softers) was followed by the return of the sports quiz enjoyed by all. Further drinking, and with boys fired up by this prolonged sesh, a few trevorers disappeared off to the bright lights of Bournemouth. Those that went certainly saw the sights including a rather surreal finish in a "heeby jeeby" turkish bar late in the evening!! There did seem a strong correlation between match results the following morning with the late night revellers not enjoying too much success!!

ROW Dig Knife in Deeper
Parkstone Golf Club
Day 2 was a short trip from the hotel to the excellent Parkstone Golf Club.
Unfortunately we encountered a shocking day’s weather, the first nightmare day since moving to a summer Trevor in 2001. Drizzle all day, occasionally heavier made playing conditions very difficult but the boys battled through. Indeed the Trevor was the only shoes to walk the fairways all day as no other golfer ventured near the course!!
The morning session was delayed as the course was already waterlogged after torrential overnight rain, but the club were very accommodating in allowing us to play when normally they may have been shut. The round then took some time to complete due to the wet conditions, consequently the two captains had to earn their corn at lunch deciding on what to do for the afternoon golf as the course was, by then, under water and almost unplayable. A long lunch was taken, the weather abated a little, and the afternoon better balls were reduced to 10 hole matches (another Trevor first).
In the morning greensomes matches, the ROW increased their lead on the back of an amazing singles win by Karlos over a lacklustre Leafy. The first three matches all went the way of the ROW, but two wins for Hampton at the back just about kept them in touch.

The afternoon matches resulted in a small session win for the OHA but they remain trailing by a significant margin going into the final day’s singles.
The singles match saw a battle between the two captains with Medsey seeing off Jules (was this an omen for the overall Trevor result??!! - LT) but the OHA triumphed in three of the five better ball matches.
Better Ball Scores OHA 7 ROW 5
(reduced to 10 holes due to weather conditions)
There was some post golf debate whether these games should count as "two point matches" as they had been reduced to ten holes. The final decision was that as this wasn't trevored when the matches were reduced before play, then no change to the scoring system could be applied retrospectively - or maybe it was just the ROW showing some pity as if the points had been reduced, then the result would have almost been a forgone conclusion.

This lead means that the ROW require only 4 singles win out of 11 to retain the Trevor, 4 ½ therefore will win the
Trevor. The OHA certainly had their work cut out to prevent a third consecutive loss.
Another superb night’s entertainment, more good nosh, more excellent fines, plenty of drink and late night revelry including, of course, the singles draw and subsequent “trevorcast”. This predicted that Karlos would win the point to give the ROW the Trevor.

Hampton Fightback Falls Short
Ferndown
The OHA team came out flying winning the first four games so, in effect, were now leading the Trevor.
In these matches Copey played some astounding golf in thrashing Prichy – but nobody would have come close to an inspired Copey on this day, at most a couple over par when they shook hands!!
An out of sorts LT somehow managed to win the final three holes to turn around his match against Sarge and Jules upset the form book with a win against Softers, previously unbeaten through the decade.
Matt and Kev then enjoyed wins for the ROW and with the back two games finishing early, shared wins for each side, the overall result hinged on three matches on the course.
As the matches unfolded, Nicky Boy actually had a putt to win his match on the last but sadly three putted for a half and this proved to be the end of the OHA challenge as the other results filtered through. Woz had beaten JG on the
17th. This meant that the ROW had won the trophy - Leafy holding onto beat Wyn on the last actually had no bearing on the overall result.
A really tight finish with, in effect, Nick’s putt the difference between an ROW win and a drawn match (hope this doesn't give you too many sleepless nights Nick - LT) – but, of course, there were so many other instances when a putt here or there would have made the difference; that is matchplay golf, that is the Trevor!!

Overall Result: OHA 28 ROW 30
The closest Trevor finish since the tied event in 2001. The OHA almost caught up having surrendered an early big lead over the first two days. This was also the first Hampton win in the singles for four years (Woodhall Spa 2003).
The ROW duly won their third consecutive Trevor to take the lead in the overall series, the match score now being OHA 5½ ROW 6½.
Jules presented the trophy to Medsey and reflected on being the first OHA captain to lose both his years (LT &
Jim both lost as captain but only stood for one year – LT). He announced that his successor would be Kill, long overdue some may say. Can he turn the tide back to Hampton as the ROW juggernaut gets rolling?

2007 Playing Stats
Trevor's Summary
Woz completed a successful Trevor as the only unbeaten player at this year’s event, furthermore he won all his matches for a 100% record.
The biggest shock from the OHA perspective was a winless weekend from one of their big guns, JG who only managed a half over the weekend.
This, and other personal records, highlighted the topsy-turvy nature that is Trevor golf as he was the OHA’s strongest player the previous year. The bottom two points scorers in 2006, Joey & LT, became the OHA top points scorers in
2007!!
Medsey enjoyed the responsibility of captaincy winning three of his four matches, a record equalled by Matt W. Sagey, as usual, featured strongly and Kev had a second consecutive successful Trevor.
Little did we know the problems that were about to unfold for poor Kev as post Trevor he identified his serious neck problem that would keep him out of the Trevor for the next 5 years, his welcome return not being until 2012.
The list below show, once again, the 2007 records for the players listed in order of % wins rather than points gained as these are so heavily weighted by a singles win. The points gained are in brackets (next to the % figure).
